IPL 2016 Match 36: Kings XI Punjab vs Delhi Daredevils – 5 Talking Points

Kings XI Punjab defeated Delhi Daredevils by 9 runs at the PCA Stadium, Mohali just a few moments ago. It was an excellent performance by Kings XI Punjab bowlers at the death overs and some bad batting which cost Delhi Daredevils the match.

  1. Good start by Kings XI Punjab openers

Delhi Daredevils won the toss and choose to bowl. Kings XI Punjab openers Murali Vijay and Stonis gave the team a solid start. Both players took the time to settle taking singles and hitting bad balls away for boundaries. Kings XI Punjab openers lost the first wicket at the score of 45 runs in 34 balls. Murali Vijay was dismissed for 25 off 16 balls hitting four boundaries.

  1. Saha quickfire knocks of 52 off 32

Saha came at the crease when Kings XI Punjab lost the second wicket of Hashim Amla at the end of the 7th over. Saha and Stonis played some wonderful strokes which created momentum for Kings XI Punjab batsmen. Stonis who was playing slowly, Saha stroked the ball nicely. Both of them put on 58 in 7 overs for the 3rd wicket. After the fall of Stonis wicket, Saha took the bowlers on and completed his half-century and put up another quick fire partnership with Maxwell for the 4th wicket. Saha was dismissed in the 19th over for 52 in 33 balls which helped Kings XI Punjab to reach a competitive total.

  1. Partnership between Stonis and Saha

Saha and Stonis came at the crease when the team was struggling at 48 for 2 in the 7th over. Stonis who looked set were struggling to time the ball while Saha played wonderful strokes of the spinners which put pressure on Delhi Daredevils. Stonis completed his half-century off 41 balls before getting out on the next balls. Both of them put on 58 runs in 7 overs. Stonis was dismissed in the 14th over.

  1. Good opening partnership between Sanju Samson and De Kock

Chasing a massive total of 182 to win, Delhi Daredevils openers De Kock and Sanju Samson made a slow start to the innings scoring 16 off the first 3 overs. After the slow start, De Kock played excellent strokes which put pressure on the Kings XI Punjab bowlers. In the next 3 overs, Delhi Daredevils scored 35 runs. In the power play overs, Delhi scored 51. After the power play, De Kock continued his excellent form while Sanju Samson gave support to De Kock which put less pressure on South African batsmen. De Kock brought his half-century off 27 balls. De Kock was dismissed in the 8th over by Stonis to end a 70 runs stand for the first wicket.

  1. Brilliant bowling by Kings XI Punjab bowlers at the death

At the start of 15th over Delhi Daredevils was sitting pretty at 132 for 2. Karun Nair was dismissed playing a poor stroke. The 17th over bowled by Stonis was a great over as he gave away only 4 runs and picked the important wicket of Billings. Sandeep Sharma went for a six and four in the 18th over but finally picked the wicket of Braithwaite. Mohit Sharma bowled a brilliant 19th over as he gave away only 3 runs which titled the match in favour of Kings XI Punjab. Kings XI Punjab won the match by 9 runs and got two important points.
