IPL 2017: Andrew Tye Doubtful For Remainder Of The Tournament After Suffering Shoulder Injury

Gujarat Lions’ faltering season is set to suffer another setback as their in-form bowler Andrew Tye is looking doubtful for the rest of the season after picking up a bad-looking shoulder injury during the game against Mumbai Indians on Sunday night (April 29).
The mishap occurred in the eleventh over when the Australia pacer tried to save a boundary. Mumbai Indians opener Parthiv Patel struck one to Tye’s right at deep mid-wicket. The ball was looking well-set to cross the boundary rope but Tye was not ready to give it up yet and made good ground in a desperate attempt to save a boundary. But in doing so, he fell awkwardly and was seen grimacing in pain by holding his left shoulder.
The right-arm pacer was immediately attended to by the Gujarat physio and the Lions’ head coach Brad Hodge, before being stretchered off the ground.
Tye’s absence was badly felt by the Lions as they went on to lose a thriller in a super over.
No word has come yet from the Gujarat Lions camp regarding Tye’s injury but the injury looks really bad and is very much similar to what his compatriot and Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Chris Lynn suffered earlier in the tournament. Lynn is still recovering from the injury and Tye can suffer a similar fate.
But the Lions, who are languishing at the fifth position in the table, would be desperately hoping that the bowler recovers just like he did in December last year after dislocating his left shoulder while fielding for Scraborough in a Perth Premier Cricket match. Scans had revealed minor structural damage but he recovered quickly to feature for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.
The 30-year old, who is considered as a death-bowling expert, has been a revelation for the Gujarat Lions this season. He took a brilliant 5-wicket haul including a hat-trick on his IPL debut against Rising Pune Supergiant and is currently the highest wicket-taker for his team with 12 scalps from just six games.
