IPL 2017: Delhi Daredevils Signs Marlon Samuels As Quinton de Kocks’s Replacement

The West Indies all-rounder Marlon Samuels, who was recently part of the Pakistan Super League franchise Peshawar Zalmi, has been signed by Delhi Daredevils as South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock’s replacement for the tenth edition of Indian Premier League.

The left-handed batsman De Kock was ruled out of the IPL after suffering an injury to his right index finger which he picked on New Zealand tour in March.

The reports suggested, 36-year-old Jamaica-born Samuels is expected to join the Daredevils camp on April 29.

Earlier, Samuels whose base price was INR 1 crore went unsold in the February 20 auction in Bengaluru.

So far, Delhi has played six games in which they have registered two wins to claim four points as they are placed seventh in the IPL points table.

However, Daredevils will face-off Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 28.

Daredevils has welcomed Samuels by tweeting on the official Twitter handle while adding the hashtags as ‘Dilliwaalon’, ‘DilliBoy and ‘DilDilliHai’.

With the addition of Samuels in the squad, Daredevils would be expecting his all-round ability and experience would come handy in their remaining fixtures, in a bid to take a leap in the points table.

In 10 IPL matches, Samuels has scored 132 runs and picked nine wickets.

In 2012, Samuels was the part of Pune Warriors before playing for the same IPL franchise in 2013 as he appeared in just two games in the sixth edition of the lucrative Twenty20 league.

In 149 domestic T20s league games across the globe, Samuels has scored 3,757 runs at an average of 32.66 which further include two centuries and 25 fifties.

With his off-spin bowling, Samuels has claimed 68 wickets at an average of 26.11 with an economy just a shade over seven.

After making his international debut at the young age, Samuels has played 187 One-day Internationals, 71 Tests and 55 Twenty20 Internationals for the West Indies.
