IPL 2017 Final: Twitter Brutally Trolls Mumbai Indians After Poor Batting Performance In Title-Decider

Rising Pune Supergiant have taken a huge step towards winnings their maiden Indian Premier League by restricting  Mumbai Indians to 129 for 8 in the summit clash at Hyderabad. The Mumbai-based outfit was reeling at 79 for 7 before Krunal Pandya guided them to a respectable total with a 47-run knock.

Mumbai Indians went off to a disastrous start after their skipper Rohit Sharma elected to bat first as the in-form Jaydev Unadkat sent back both the openers in a space of 4 balls in the third over. Parthiv Patel(4) was the first to go after his mistimed pull shot went straight into the hands of Shardul Thakur at mid-on. Three balls later, Simmons(3) joined him too courtesy of a brilliant one-handed catch by Unadkat on his followthrough.

The early setbacks did not allow the two-time IPL champions to go for the big shots and they were reeling at 16 for 2 after the fifth over before Rohit Sharma hit 4 boundaries in the final over of the powerplay to steer his side to a respectable 32 after first six overs. Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu calmed down the nerves in the dressing room with their sensible batting but just when it looked the duo had got a measure of the things, Rayudu was run out for 12 runs.

15 runs later, they suffered a huge setback when Adam Zampa accounted for Rohit Sharma. The India opener tried to pull a short ball over the mid-on boundary but lost his balance while playing the shot and Shardul Thakur did not commit any mistake in taking a brilliantly -judged catch to put the Supergiant on the top. Kieron Pollard, who walked in after Rohit’s dismissal, began his innings with a six in the same over but Zampa had the last laugh as he sent back the hard-hitting West Indian on the last ball of that over. Hardik Pandya and Karn Sharma departed soon, leaving their team reeling at 79 for 7 in the 15th over.

Krunal Pandya waged a lone battle from one end and shared a partnership of 50 runs with Mitchell Johnston to guide his team to a respectable total.

Here is how Twitter reacted to the innings:

Rising Pune Supergiant will definitely back themselves to chase down this small total. The Steve Smith-led side has already defeated Mumbai Indians thrice this season and the psychological factor will surely boost their confidence. The only thing that can hinder their chase is the nerve of playing in their first final but otherwise, the Supergiant is looking the favourites to lift the title.
