Royal Challengers Bangalore have signed Madhya Pradesh batsman and part-time bowler Harpreet Singh Bhatia as a replacement of injured Sarfaraz Khan. Bhatia has been joined the RCB camp and also participated in the practice camp at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium.
Bhatia has been rewarded for his solid performance in domestic cricket as he shone for Central Zone in the inter-zonal Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where he scored 211 runs in four matches. He was hopeful for a bid in the IPL auction but went unsold due to dubious reasons.
He expressed the surprise over going unsold as on the day of the IPL auction, the former India under 19 player Harmeet Singh drove his car into a railway station in Mumbai.
He was taken into police custody. Later, Harpreet Singh, in a talk with IndianExpress revealed that the misleading identity was the reason for him going unsold, as many media houses used his image instead of Harmeet Singh while displaying the news.
The damage was already done, as Harpreet revealed this three days after the IPL auction. But now, he has been handed an IPL contract in place of injured Sarfaraz Khan and he would like to cash the opportunity.
Earlier, Sarfaraz injured himself a day ahead when RCB was to fly to Hyderabad to take on the defending champions for the first encounter of IPL 2017. There was news that he has only been ruled out for two weeks but now it has been confirmed that the former Under 19 batsman will miss the whole tournament.
The Madhya Pradesh star player has earlier been part of Kolkata Knight Riders and Pune Warriors India. Though he has only played four games with his last appearance coming in the year 2012.
Harpreet is the second replacement in the RCB camp, as earlier the franchise signed Kerala batsman Vishnu Vinod as a replacement of opener KL Rahul, who has just returned from London after undergoing a shoulder operation.
