IPL 2017: “In Modern Day Cricket, No Run-Rate Is That High,” Says Man Of The Match MS Dhoni

The match was down to the last over of the game and MS Dhoni, the last over specialist, who has a history of changing the course of the game was one of the batsmen out in the middle.
Dhoni was once known for ensuring a win whenever a game went down to the final six balls but from past few years, this quality got rusted and dusted.
The stage was set and it was a must-do job for Dhoni, as if he failed this time, then the critics would have forgotten what MS Dhoni has done for Indian cricket and launched an attack on the former skipper.
Not to forget, there is such critic in RPS camp itself but Dhoni did not just bash the ball out of the playing area but also his critics, as he drove the last over encounter into his team’s favour.
He had a slow start but soon changed his gears to lead the team to a win. It was his experience and wise approach towards the chase that really helped the team to eclipse past the humongous total.
With this win, Rising Pune Supergiant registered its third win of the tournament.
Here is what Man of the Match MS Dhoni said after the toss –
Dhoni:
“It was a difficult one but it was important that, since we had strikers towards the end, that we take Rashid out of the game. That was his last over. It’s not a pretty big ground, and there was a pretty strong breeze. That was the plan. It was slightly above average, the run rate. You can’t always pull it off. Manoj’s contribution was very important. In modern day cricket, there’s no run rate that’s high. It boils down to how the opposition bowlers execute. It’s about who handles the nerves well. Overall I feel that last four overs you can get close to 60 runs provided the opposition plays badly and you play well.”
