Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians skipper led the team to the third IPL title in the fifth year of his captaincy. He had a special message after the final as he tweeted –
Winning takes talent, to repeat takes character, grit and intelligence. What a brilliant final to be part of @mipaltan #IPLfinal

After winning the toss, Mumbai opted to bat first, keeping in mind the fact that the pitch will go slow later. They had a torrid start as both the openers were back in the pavilion with the team still to touch the 10 run mark. Ambati Rayudu and Rohit Sharma held the crease for few overs but they too failed to get the big job done for their side.
It was a special effort from Krunal Pandya that saw Mumbai first getting past a total of 100, followed by putting a defendable total of 129 on the board.
For Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah got the first wicket by trapping Raul Tripathi in front of the stumps. Then came a good time for Pune when Ajinkya Rahane and Steven Smith were showing that the job is quite easy.
It looked like it will be a tame IPL final where Pune will win but Mumbai made a comeback soon. Apart from taking wickets, they also slowed up the pace of Pune batting to defend a total of 129, winning the game by just one run.
Rohit Sharma was an elated man as till 15th over of Pune’s innings, the game was in balance and Pune were favourites but a long conversation in the strategic time out and what followed is now a history.
With this, Mumbai lifted the IPL trophy for the third time, most by any team in history of IPL
