IPL 2017: Who Said What: Cricketing Fraternity Congratulates Hashim Amla For Maiden T20 Century

For the second day in a row, a batsman has proved one does not need unconventional shots to excel in the shortest format of the game. On Wednesday (April 19), Kane Williamson blasted 89 runs off only 51 balls against Delhi Daredevils and not even once was he seen slogging the balls.

And on Thursday (April 20), another batsman- Hashim Amla, who relies heavily on textbook style shots and discipline, went one step further, as he scored his maiden T20.

The Protea star achieved the feat against Mumbai Indians at the Holkar Stadium, Indore. Not surprisingly, the 34-year old did not start his innings on a blistering note and mixed caution with aggression early on.

He was batting on 40 from before hitting ten runs off one Lasith Malinga over to complete his fifty off 34 balls. But the veteran batsman hit the top gear when Malinga came to bowl the 16th over. He clobbered the Sri Lankan pacer for two fours and as many sixes to race to 77 off 45 balls.

He completed his maiden IPL ton in the final over by hitting Malinga for two consecutive sixes and guided Kings XI Punjab to 198 in the allotted 20 overs. ย He remained unbeaten on 104 off 60 balls including eight fours and six well-timed sixes.

Here is how the cricketing fraternity reacted to Amla’s brilliant knock:
