After Gujarat Lions had raced to over 100 runs inside 10 overs while chasing the mammoth 213 runs in the ongoing match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Rajkot, the runners-up of last year had their task cut out when the in-form Dinesh Karthik came in to bat following the dismissal of Aaron Finch.
Fortunately for the visitors, the wicketkeeper-batsman could not do much with the bat and Virat Kohli’s reaction clearly showed how badly they needed that wicket.
Karthik came onto the crease when Gujarat was cruising at 103 for three in the tenth over.
However, the visiting team did not allow him to play his usual game, putting him under pressure. In the eleventh over of the innings which was bowled by S Aravind, the Lions managed just three runs in the first five balls. It was quite clear that Karthik would go for the big shot on the final ball and Kohli had his plans for that very situation.
The RCB skipper pushed back the mid-on fielder and had himself placed at the long-on boundary.
As expected, Karthik went for the big shot but only managed to hit it as far as Kohli. The Tamil Nadu batsman timed the ball well but lacked power and consequently, the ball could not clear the boundary. The wicket, meanwhile, tilted the tie in RCB’s side and Kohli’s pumped up reaction said it all.
Here is a clip of that wicket:
