Stephen Fleming, the Head Coach of Chennai Super Kings, landed in the team’s camp today (March 27).
CSK have already kicked off the preparations for the coming season with star players like MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja and Harbhajan Singh joining the camp.
Before Fleming’s arrival, Michael Hussey and LP Balaji were overseeing the preparations for the team.
Fleming, upon his arrival, will have a big job to select the replacement for Mitchell Santner.
The Kiwi all-rounder was ruled out of IPL due to a knee injury.
The franchise cleared that it would announce his replacement in consultation with Fleming and captain MS Dhoni.
With the Head Coach joining the camp, one could see the franchise naming his replacement soon.
Santner will spend around six to nine months out due to a knee injury.
Not just IPL, he will also miss his county stint with Derbyshire.
Meanwhile, Shane Watson, CSK all-rounder, also joined the camp.
The franchise purchased him for an amount of Rs 4 Crore.
Still, few of CSK players are yet to land in the camp.
The franchise though has already started a full-fledged camp in Chennai.
Chennai Super Kings are making their comeback in IPL after two years.
The franchise missed IPL 2016 and 2017 as it was banned on the lines of Lodha recommendations.
Along with CSK, Rajasthan Royals are also making a comeback to the league.
The MS Dhoni-led CSK will face Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener on April 7 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
CSK play their first home game against on April 10 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Before the start of the league, an opening ceremony will also take place at the same venue.
However, as many as six teams will give the ceremony a miss due to logistical issues.
The members of only Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians will be present during the opening ceremony.
