Every year the Indian Premier League had given Indian cricket a new star; from Ravindra Jadeja to Hardik Pandya, Indian cricket has been blessed to find players from the tournament.
Similarly, this year Ishan Kishan is emerging as one of the names to the do the rounds during this year’s IPL.
Ishan has been a revelation for the Mumbai Indians in this edition of the IPL with the defending champions using the Jharkhand batsman at the number three position. His wicket-keeping skills have been on offer for the formers champions as well.
However, more than his performance in front of the wickets and behind them, his fitness has been impressive as well.
The Jharkhand batsman has scored 151 runs in the five games so far at an average of 30.20.
However, his journey has been a long one as it all started during the 2016/17 season for Jharkhand where he played along former Indian skipper MS Dhoni.
Kishan said it was the 2011 World Cup-winning captain who suggested him to change his attitude at the crease.
“Dhoni bhai saw me at the nets and walked up to me and said that I needed to curtail my attacking instincts, to begin with. He believed that to play a long inning I needed to be a little more compact and I did just that. He asked me to change my stance as well, and when it comes from someone like Dhoni bhai, you know you can trust his observation,”
“I got time to rework my stance and train with my new stance during the camp ahead of the season, and I realised that I was feeling a lot better at the crease. I have maintained that stance since and I have seen that it has enhanced my batting,”
Talking about his fitness and Dhoni’s influence on it, Kishan said,
“Dhoni bhai puts a lot of emphasis on fitness. As we all know, he loves to stay at the top of his fitness level. And this time, he ensured that we also worked on our fitness at the start of the season. It was obviously something that wasn’t too common with the domestic teams, but the experience was out of the world,”
