IPL 2018: Kings XI Punjab vs Delhi Daredevils – Statistical Highlights

Kings XI Punjab started their Indian Premier League campaign with an impressive win over Delhi Daredevils. The Punjab-based outfit rode on KL Rahul’s whirlwind fifty to beat the capital-based outfit by 5 wickets.
Gautam Gambhir’s 42-ball 55 helped Delhi put on 166/7 on the board. In reply, KL Rahul scored a 14-ball fifty while Karun Nair made a composed fifty, helping Kings XI reach the target with seven balls to spare.
With the game done and dusted now, here is a take at some interesting numbers:
1. Rahul reached his fifty in 2.5 overs of the KXIP innings. He is the first player to score a fifty in the IPL by the completion of the 4th over.
2. Rahul scored the fastest fifty of the IPL history with his 14-ball fifty. This is also the 2nd fastest in the T20 format by an Indian after Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball fifty in the 2007 World T20.
3. Gautam Gambhir has now been run out on 16 occasions in the IPL so far. These are the most number of times a player dismissed via run out in the IPL.
4. At 17 years and 11 days, KXIP’s Mujeeb ur Rahman (Mujeeb Zadran) became the youngest player to feature in an IPL game. He surpassed Sarfaraz Khan’s record who made his IPL debut for RCB in the 2015 season at the age of 17 years and 177 days.
5. Gautam Gambhir has now 36 fifty-plus scores in the IPL. These are the joint most fifty-plus scores for any player in the IPL. He equalled David Warner’s record.
6. Ravichandran Ashwin captained any team for the first time in his Twenty20 career. He featured in 111 games before making his captaincy debut in the IPL. He is the first player to feature in over 100 games before making his captaincy debut in the IPL.
