IPL 2018: Virender Sehwag believes current KXIP team is strongest than ever

Virender Sehwag, Mentor and Head Cricket Operations of Kings XI Punjab, has rated his team as the best side in last decade since the inception of Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008.

“If we compare the current team with the ones we saw in the last decade, I feel this one is the strongest. We worked hard in building the right combination. We spent a lot of money in the auction and kept our focus on the Indian players as it is Indian Premier League and only Indians can make a difference here,” he told India TV during an interaction.

Kings XI Punjab has a strong and experienced line up this time around. At the start, they have likes of Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, Aaron Finch, Karun Nair and also Mayank Agarwal.

In the fast bowling department, the team boasts likes of Ankit Rajpoot, Andrew Tye, Mohit Sharma and Barinder Singh Sran.

In the spin department, Ravichandran Ashwin will lead along with Axar Patel.

Pardeep Sahu, Mayank Dagar and Mujeeb Zadran are the three other spin options available for KXIP.

KXIP also have star players in form of Yuvraj Singh, Manoj Tiwary and David Miller, who can turn the game on their own.

The presence of Marcus Stoinis is a big boost for the franchise.

This team looks one of the strongest contenders to win the trophy as it has all the bases covered.

They have a well-balanced side and looks all set to clinch their maiden title.

Kings XI Punjab will kick off their IPL campaign against Delhi Daredevils in a home game on April 8.

Earlier, the team was to play the first game at Feroz Shah Kotla.

However, the contest had to be shifted to Mohali due to logistical issues.

The Chandigarh airport will be closed for most of the days in the month of May, the reason behind KXIP asking for a tweak in the fixture.

Now, KXIP will play their Mohali leg first followed by Indore leg.

In other news, Aaron Finch will not be available for the team for first few games.

There are high chances of Chris Gayle being handed the opportunity to open in Finch’s absence.

Concluding, Virender Sehwag has a big role to play alongside his wards – to lay hands on the first-ever IPL title for KXIP.

Squad: Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Ravichandran Ashwin, Andrew Tye, Aaron Finch, Marcus Stoinis, Karun Nair, Mujeeb Zadran, Ankit Singh Rajpoot, David Miller, Mohit Sharma, Barinder Singh Sran, Yuvraj Singh, Christopher Gayle, Ben Dwarshuis, Akshdeep Nath, Manoj Tiwary, Mayank Agarwal, Manzoor Dar, Pardeep Sahu, Mayank Dagar.
