Chris Gayle scored the first hundred of IPL 2018
Even before the start of the IPL 2018, Ravichandran Ashwin had said he would be a sort of skipper who won’t shy away from making bold moves.
Well, the former CSK asset has certainly lived up to his words. Ashwin elected to bat first after winning the toss. He dismissed the tried and tested trend of chasing, something which has been the plan for all the skippers in this year’s IPL.
Chris Gayle was on song once again. After going slam-bang against Chennai, the other day, the big man teed-off the Sunrisers bowlers in some style.
The opener hit 11 sixes and a boundary to bring up his sixth IPL hundred. It turned out to be the first loss for the Kane Williamson-led side. The Kings XI now have three wins under their kitty, and they will be happy to maintain a good record at home this season.
Post the convincing 15-run victory, Ashwin praised his boys for having ticked all the boxes. He also mentioned the Jamaican’s knock that took off the proceedings in a blistering manner.
Ravichandran Ashwin happy with a complete performance
“This was a complete performance. We could’ve conceded ten runs lesser to work on the net run rate, didn’t happen but we’re still happy. We thought giving them a reasonable score to chase is something we could handle at the back end. Chris batted beautifully and took it away from them. It’s more about who we play and what works best. It’s about doing well in the Powerplay.” Ashwin said.
“For example, Mohit v Dhawan was a clean match-up. It was extremely pleasing to see the crowd today; we have never seen this in Mohali. Chris entertained them. One word won’t be enough to describe his knock. His style is hard to replicate, when it comes off, it’s hard to match it.” the skipper added.
