The youngster starred in an emphatic win against Delhi Daredevils

An all-round Kolkata Knight Riders performance backed by Nitish Rana and spinners helped the home side win the game against Delhi Daredevils comfortably by 71 runs at the Eden Gardens.

Having lost the toss, Kolkata Knight Riders were made to bat first on a decent batting wicket.

However, the side lost Sunil Narine in only the third over. Robin Uthappa had upped the ante to forge a decent partnership with Lynn.

However, the duo could not ward off the pressure put by Delhi bowlers for long. But Nitish Rana, who came at No. 4, had held the innings together. Other batsmen played around him. Although he did not precisely play an anchor role, Rana scored some quick runs.

He managed to score an impressive 59 runs in just 35 balls. His innings featured five fours and four sixes. Dinesh Karthik and Andre Rusell played around him and propelled the score to an impressive 200/9 in 20 overs.

Delhi Daredevils top order once again failed them in the big chase. Shreyas Iyer, Gautam Gambhir and Jason Roy were all dismissed within the first three overs.

Glenn Maxwell and Rishabh Pant tried to rescue the situation. But once they were gone, the other batsmen had also failed miserably. The win also helped KKR leap to the second position after two losses in their last two games.

Sunil Narine and Kuldeep Yadav were the picks of the bowlers. The duo picked up three wickets each while other bowlers chipped in with a wicket apiece.

Nitish Rana was adjudged the Man of the match for his performance with the bat. The youngster was delighted with the way he batted in his innings.

“It’s a good feeling as this is my first season for KKR and I wanted to perform well. Unluckily I got out on the previous two occasions. Hence this was an important knock for me.

“This was also an important game for us as we lost the previous two matches. I get to know about the type of ball just by looking at the field; I get a fair idea about it. The other team had planned not to bowl outside off, but when they bowled at my body I went for the shots, and it came off. When the ball is in my range, I go ahead with the shot, and I managed to do it tonight.”

The Knight Riders will now face Rajasthan Royals in their next game at Sawai Mann Singh Stadium, Jaipur. Nitish Rana & Co. will look to build on this victory.
