The Kings XI Punjab unit have been going great guns in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. And a lot of the credit must go to Virender Sehwag, the mentor, and Head of Cricket Operations of Kings XI.
The 2018 IPL has witnessed quite a lot of close finishes even though a super-over is still missing.
But it seems like Sehwag and his team is well prepared if the situation demands. Sehwag recently said the opening duo of Chris Gayle and KL Rahul are likely to bat in case of a super-over.
He also added Afghanistan’s young sensation Mujeeb Ur Rahman would be assigned the job of bowling the deciding over.
“Waise toh bharosa poore team par hai. Magar, Super Over mein opposition jab ban jaye bin bulaya mahman, toh bowling mein utrega Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Aur batting mein hamare do diggaj jo kabhi hote nahi fail, Lokesh Rahul aur humare Boss Chris Gayle.” Sehwag said while answering to a fan.
Kings XI’s master-stroke
Sehwag and the think-tank played a master-stroke by picking Gayle in the auction for INR 2 Crore.
The Jamaican batter remained unsold in the first two rounds of the IPL auction but was snapped for his base price in the third and final round.
On the other hand, KL Rahul fetched a significant sum of INR 11 Crore. The wicket-keeper batsman had provided solid starts for his current franchise.
Interestingly, both Gayle and Rahul played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the previous edition of the IPL.
He was also quizzed on whom would he prefer while chasing 30 runs in the last over. Sehwag said
“If we want our campaign to stay on the trail, then obviously we’ll play KL Rahul and Gayle. But if we want to go that extra inch, then we might even throw in Aaron Finch!”
