Yet another victory for Dinesh Karthik-led side at Eden Gardens. They thrashed Kings XI Punjab to secure their second win on a trot in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2019 edition. Once again, it was Andre Russell, who was the star of the match with his all-round display of cricketing skills.
Firstly, it was the show from Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana and Andre Russell, which helped the team to post a massive total on the board. Later, it was a collective bowling effort, which did the trick.
Andre Russell’s finish was great – Dinesh Karthik
Speaking in the post-match presentation, the skipper of Kolkata quoted that the finish by Andre Russell was brilliant while credit goes to Robin Uthappa, who played an anchor role till the end. He also lauded the effort of Nitish Rana as well.
“Obviously a good start to the tournament for us. The way Nitish played was beautiful. Got to give credit to Robbie for playing through and the start was very good as well. Obviously, Russell’s finish was great.
On Nitish Rana playing at number 3:
In the previous game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, KKR sent in Nitish Rana at the top, who played terrific innings. But, in the chase, they sent Sunil Narine at the top. Speaking of the same, Karthik revealed that in the last game Sunil Narine was injured.
”Then the bowling as well, they had some good stroke-makers and we had to tie them down. Narine got injured, so we made a last minute change and it was gracious of Nitish to open. There are a lot of good players for us. Important to keep them in a good space. The long tournament, we can’t get ahead of ourselves. Got a few interesting games, playing away. We’re looking forward to it.”
Well, as Dinesh Karthik said, it was a complete performance from the team. Once again, Andre Russell was the star, who collected the man of the match trophy. It would be interesting to see the team composition for the away games.
All in all, it was a sweet victory for Kolkata Knight Riders. Now, they will make their way to the capital of the country Delhi to play the home-based franchise on Saturday night.
