IPL 2019: Being Number One At Kings XI Punjab Has Helped My Game – KL Rahul

The last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was the breakout year for the talented KL Rahul. Opening the innings for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Rahul smashed 659 runs with six fifties to finish as the third highest run-scorer. Speaking about his stint in Punjab, the Karnataka batsman said it has helped him develop his game.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul shifted his base from Royal Challengers Bangalore to Punjab last year. The Virat Kohli-led franchise decided not to retain KL Rahul ahead of IPL 2018. The Kings then jumped to avail the service of the India cricketer for a whopping sum of Rs 11 crore. Rahul repaid the faith shown on him scoring tons of runs for the franchise. Rahul recently admitted that he feels settled in Kings XI Punjab now that he is no longer under the shadow of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

KL Rahul is hopeful that they have a balanced squad and this year should also go well. He has forged a great partnership with Chris Gayle, his opening partner at the KXIP. They have the license to go all guns blazing reason why they are the most feared opening pair in the IPL. He also shared high praise on the big Jamaican calling him an incredible entertainer. The star batsman also added that he will be within his limits keeping the World Cup in sight.

2018 was magical for me as far as IPL is concerned. With a really good and balanced team, this year also should be good. At RCB I was under the shadow of Virat and AB de Villiers and here I am the number one and that has helped.

Chris Gayle is just an incredible entertainer. I told him at 37 he has rediscovered form. He said he is nearing 40! At 40 he can play like this is unreal. I am going to be far more disciplined this IPL with the World Cup in mind,” KL Rahul told India Today.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul is still unsure about his World Cup after having a tough time in recent tours. The recent Koffee With Karan controversy has also affected him; however, he is keen to put everything behind and concentrate on the IPL. In conclusion, Rahul said that he wants to score runs in the ongoing tournament and the rest about his selection depends on the selectors.
