Chris Gayle, on Saturday, added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap. The Kings XI Punjab star became the first player in the history of the Indian Premier League to score 300 sixes. The Jamaican achieved the feat during the ninth game of this season against Mumbai Indians in Mohali.
Gayle started this season on 292 sixes. In the first game which was against Rajasthan Royals, he hit four maximums during his 79-run knock. In the following game against Kolkata Knight Riders, he hit two more to take his tally to 298 before two more against Mumbai Indians. The hard-hitting batsman achieved the feat when he hit Mitchell McClenaghan for back-to-back sixes in the third over.

Gayle is head and shoulders above in the list of most sixes in IPL. While he became the first to hit 300 sixes, no other player has even hit 200. AB de Villiers is second in the list with 192 sixes. MS Dhoni is the highest ranked Indian at third with 187 maximums to his name. Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma complete the top five with 186 and 185 sixes respectively.

Earlier this season, Gayle also became only the second overseas player to score 4,000 runs in IPL. David Warner is the first player to achieve the feat. Apart from Gayle and Warner, the only other player from outside India to score 4,000 runs in IPL is AB de Villiers.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have posted 176 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. Kings XI Punjab have made a fine start to their chase and were 36 for no loss at the end of the fifth over. Kings XI Punjab have started their season with one win and one loss.
