Mar 31, 2019 at 6:08 PM
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow carried an onslaught to post 231 runs – second-highest total against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Following his debut century in Indian Premier League (IPL), Bairstow hailed the fans and said it was outstanding to bat with Warner.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batsmen David Warner and Jonny Bairstow gave a stunning start after Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar came out for the toss in place of Kane Williamson who missed out with a niggle. The right-hand-left-hand combination has looked dangerous right from the start of the tournament. They continued with it in this game as they added 51 in the first five overs.
Bairstow score his debut century
Soon after, Bairstow reached the first fifty of the season and looked all pumped up. He took on debutant Prayas Ray Barman and smashed him all over the park to reach a fifty and has outscored Warner. Then Bairstow struck Colin de Grandhomme back-to-back sixes to post 105 runs from ten overs. In the second half, they increased their scoring rate to add another 126 runs with both Warner and Jonny Bairstow scoring their individual hundreds. Although Bairstow got out, Warner ensured they post 231 runs on the board.
Following his superlative knock, Bairstow said that it was a great feeling to bat in Hyderabad. He also added that it was fun batting with David Warner. Jonny Bairstow also noted that it is a bit tiring and as long as things are falling in the place he is okay to do it.
“It was great to bat here – between the wickets it’s one of the bigger pitches in India so getting the gaps and constantly rotating the strike is tough – fantastic pitch out there. I’m not sure I’m superhuman, I’m absolutely cooked (laughs), but as long as you’re getting your head through the ball it’s alright – only if you fall over, you’ll miscue it. It was fantastic to bat in the middle with Warner – and it’s fantastic he’s got the Orange cap,” Bairstow said.
It will be an entertaining chase: Bairstow
Furthermore, Jonny Bairstow stated that the crowd were amazing and they are fortunate to have them. Speaking about the chase, the English wicket-keeper-batsman said it will be an entertaining one.
“The crowd is amazing, the fans are fanatical, and we are fortunate to have them. I’d like to think we have enough for Kohli and AB, and we know the kind of class they have in their batting line-up. We generally bowl well here. I’m sure if they get going and chase it down, it’ll be an entertaining chase,” he concluded.
