Debutant Alzarri Joseph starred for Mumbai Indians (MI) after a few late blows from Kieron Pollard as they beat ever-consistent Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The Windies pacer claimed six wickets for just 12 runs thus breaking an 11-year-old record held by Sohail Tanvir (6 for 14) of the best bowling figures.

Chasing a modest target, Sunrisers Hyderabad was once again off to a flying start. Jonny Bairstow and David Warner struck a few boundaries to set the tone for the chase. But debutant Alzarri Joseph bowled a brilliant spell to knock Warner and Vijay Shankar out while Rahul Chahar got the better of the dangerous looking Bairstow. Hyderabad lacked partnership as Jason Behrendorff removed set Manish Pandey while Chahar removed Yusuf Pathan to have the home side at 62 for five.

Since then, Deepak Hooda and Mohammad Nabi tried to stitch a partnership, but Joseph was determined to make his debut memorable. He removed Hooda and Rashid in the same over to almost throw Sunrisers Hyderabad out of the game. Joseph finished with a five-wicket haul on his debut as Hyderabad went down against Mumbai by 40 runs at their home turf.

Previously, Kieron Pollard powered Mumbai Indians to a respectable score. He smacked 39 runs off the last two overs to help Mumbai post 136 runs on the board. However, Mumbai suffered a setback early on losing Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. Just when things looked in line, they lost three more wickets in quick succession to strive at 65 for five. However, Pollard played a blinder to give his bowlers something to bowl. He partnered Hardik Pandya and Rahul Chahar to stitch to small partnerships to post 136 runs.

The giant all-rounder remained unbeaten on 46 runs from 26 deliveries including two boundaries and four massive sixes. Mohammad Nabi was once again outstanding returning with one for 13 in his full quota while Siddarth Kaul bagged two wickets.

This win will be a massive confidence booster for Mumbai Indians as they look to turn things around in this tournament. They once again proved that this tournament is unpredictable as they beat two consistent sides in two back to back games – Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
