IPL 2019: RR vs KXIP – Chris Gayle Becomes Fastest to Scale 4000 Runs in IPL History
In the opener of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday (March 25), big-hitting sensation Chris Gayle has become fastest to amass 4000 runs in the India Premier League (IPL). During overall fourth game of the IPL 2019, Gayle slammed match-winning 47-ball 79.
Thus, he has joined the elite club of Virat Kohli, who is leading Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Recently, in the IPL 2019 opener, Suresh Raina has become the first player to amass 5000 runs in IPL history. He achieved the feat while taking on March 23 RCB in Chennai.
Apart from Kohli and MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan and Robin Uthappa have achieved the milestone.
IPL 2019: Gayle show dazzle Jaipur; 4000 runs in IPL history –
The swashbuckling Windies recruit Gayle has surpassed David Warner, who achieved the milestone in the 114th inning.
However, Gayle required just six runs to achieve the feat when he walked out in the middle to bat alongside KL Rahul in Jaipur.
Eventually, the Jamaican star has become second overseas batsman to achieve the landmark.
In 113 matches so far, Gayle has accumulated 4,073 runs at an average of 41.56. Overall, he has six hundreds and 25 half-centuries to his name. He further attributed it with 332 fours and 296 sixes.
The Universe Boss was in some mood as he blasted eight fours and four sixes. He scored at the strike-rate of 168.09.
Interestingly, the southpaw also sits on the top when it comes to the highest individual score in IPL history.
He scored unbeaten 175 off just 66 balls against now-defunct Pune Warriors India (PWI) during the sixth season of IPL.
Back then, he went past Brendon McCullum, who slammed 158 off 73 balls against RCB for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the inaugural edition of the IPL.
Gayle, who made his IPL debut for KKR in 2009, further plied trade with the RCB before shifting his base to KXIP for the eleventh season of IPL.
In the previous edition, a bit disappointed Gayle blasted a hundred and three half-centuries to amass 368 runs in 11 outings.
Well, in the tenth edition of IPL before RCB part ways with Gayle, when managed to score exactly 200 from nine games. In between 2011 and 2013, Gayle was in supreme touch to 2049 runs from 43 games.
IPL 2019: Chris Gayle’s milestone amid mankading!
In the recently-held game, batting first, KXIP managed to post 184 for four on the board in 20 allotted over. In response, Royals fell short of 14 runs while scoring 170 for nine in 20 overs.
However, the game culminated in a bad taste as mankading has become a hot debate over social media. So much so, KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin, who is being termed as ‘mankader’ ran out Jos Buttler, who had played a blinder.
English recruit has smashed 43-ball 69 before being ruled out.
Meanwhile, Gayle has set his sights on the major ICC event and he doesn’t seem to be sitting down and relax. He is looking forward to leave his legacy for all good in the cash-rich league.
