IPL 2019: We Don’t Have Team Meetings: Dwayne Bravo
While Chennai Super Kings’ game on the field is more than enough to convince everyone that a meticulous planning goes before every game, their allrounder Dwayne Bravo has claimed otherwise. After the-wicket win over Delhi Capitals Bravo has said there are no team meetings at Chennai Super Kings. The allrounder insisted that the players do not plan beforehand and believe more in coming up with the ideas at the spot.
Well, the Super Kings did give a good account of themselves once again on Tuesday. They restricted Delhi Capitals to a modest 147 for 6 just two days after the national capital-based franchise had racked up a mammoth 213 against Mumbai Indians. In reply, the Super Kings took their time to chase down the total but eventually reached it without much fuss. Shane Watson had given the team a solid start, helping them reach 100 in just 11 overs. However, MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav found it tough to get going on the two-paced Kotla track.
But the experienced duo hung on and kept the scoreboard ticking to all but seal the game with a 46-run stand. Bravo then hit a four in the final over to take the Super Kings home with two balls remaining.
“We don’t plan,” Dwayne Bravo said. “We don’t have team meetings. We don’t plan. We just turn up, go with the flow on any given day. So yeah we just watch the situation and adjust and adapt quickly. That’s where the experience comes in.”
The Super Kings have already proved how big a role experience plays in this competition. They were written off by the majority last year after buying several players aged over 30. However, the experienced campaigners went on to prove their naysayers wrong and win the title.
“We proved last season, you know, age is just a number,” Bravo said. “Whenever people talked about the CSK team, they brought in the age factor. We are not 60 years old, yeah. We are 35, 30, 32… We are still young; we look after ourselves, we look after our body, and we have a lot of experience, and don’t matter what, you can’t beat experience in any sport, in any tournament. In anything you just cannot beat experience,” added Bravo who picked up 3 for 33 against the Delhi Capitals.
