Kumar Sangakkara is worried about Delhi Capitals qualifying for playoffs as they have lost their last 3 matches as things have gone a little downhill in the last few matches as they lost against KXIP, KKR and SRH. Delhi Capitals have looked susceptible while batting and have 2 more games against Mumbai and Bangalore to rectify defects.
As they play their last two games against MI and RCB, Former Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara is worried about DC’s playoff spot. Delhi Capitals looked like the side to beat after 9 matches as they were leading the points table after 9 games with 7 wins and just two losses.
Kumar Sangakkara Worried About Delhi Capitals
The batting was looking assured with all batsmen firing while the bowling department led by pacer Kagiso Rabada was getting the job done comfortably in the initial matches. But things haven’t been as expected as they have lost their last 3 games and looked susceptible while batting with the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Shikhar Dhawan, Shimron Hetmyer failing against Hyderabad and Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan failing against Kolkata.
The batsmen only managed 131 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad as they lost the match by a mammoth 88 run-margin and against KKR where batsmen contributed with 135 runs and lost by 59 runs. It was significant as the equation is likely to come down to the Net Run Rate at the end of the 14 matches. Kumar Sangakkara is worried about Delhi’s chances as none of the batsmen was failing to score quickly.
“I am suddenly worried about Delhi Capitals. In the last few games, their batting hasn’t really looked as strong as it should’ve,” Sangakkara said on Star Sports’ show ‘Cricket Live’.
“It’s highly dependent on their top-order, no of the other batsman have got the quick runs. So, they could be the fourth one, but I would not be too sure,” he added.
With only top-ranked Mumbai Indians securing a berth, six teams are in the hunt for the remaining three spots as it has become a mad rush to qualify for play-offs. Kumar Sangakkara reckons 2nd placed Bangalore will also make it into the playoffs and 4th placed Kings XI Punjab will make it too as 4 teams qualify for IPL 2020 playoffs.
“Well, Mumbai is quiet secure, I think RCB will make it there (playoffs) as well,” Sangakkara said.
The former wicketkeeper-batsman predicted a top-four finish for Kings XI Punjab, who have infused life into their campaign with five consecutive wins and suffered their first defeat in weeks against Rajasthan Royals on Friday.
“I would say, Kings XI Punjab will make it there as well. And the fourth one, I am just struggling to make a concrete prediction on the fourth one.”
Delhi Capitals have lost 3 consecutive matches and are placed 3rd with 14 points with 7 wins and 5 losses in 12 games. Delhi Capitals will look to be back in winning ways when they play against Mumbai next.
Delhi Capitals Should Qualify While It Will Be Close Between Rajasthan And Punjab- Sunil Gavaskar
Former Indian skipper legendary opener turned commentator Sunil Gavaskar said it will be a close battle between KXIP and Rajasthan Royals for the final playoff spot.
“My three teams, which will qualify are, DC, RCB and Mumbai Indians. These are the three that will qualify.
“And I think it is going to be pretty close between RR and Kings XI, these are the two teams, out of which you will get the fourth team,” Gavaskar added.
With Rajasthan winning against Punjab, they are placed 5th while Punjab whose 5 matches winning streak ended with the defeat are 6th but both have 12 points.
