IPL 2020: Everybody’s Responsibility To Make It Successful – Mohammad Kaif

Former Indian cricketer and current Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach Mohammad Kaif has opined that everyone involved in the IPL has the responsibility to make this edition a success. The 13th edition of IPL was originally scheduled to kick off from March 29 was postponed indefinitely after April 15 due to the rising number of coronavirus cases in the nation. The postponing of the World Cup to 2021 gave the IPL a window to be conducted in September.

The Indian fans have waited too long to watch their favourite Indian cricketers play, and the IPL is an opportunity for them to come back on the field. The competition is being conducted by the collective hardwork of many making such a big event possible in the pandemic hit world.

Mohammad Kaif is very happy that the IPL is finally happening

The former Indian cricketer expressed his joy for the IPL being conducted finally. He also opined that it would be difficult this term for the players with all the regular Covid-19 testing and also a gap of 4-5 months from regular cricket. To acclimatize them practice matches will be organised Kaif confirmed.

Oh, yes, there is a lot of excitement. These are the tough, challenging times for the players as there are a lot of guidelines that need to be followed. There would be many tests of the players and supporting staff for almost two-three times a week. But I still am very happy that the IPL is finally happening and the fans will get to watch it once again,” he said.

“These are not normal circumstances. Players’ bodies have not been in use for the last 4-5 months and this will result in their performances on the field. Some practice matches would also be organised to overcome that, and yes, a difference could be still seen on the field.

:However, I would also like to add that the players have that calibre to adjust in every circumstance. That is the quality of a sportsperson. Everybody is quarantined right now. Nobody leaves his room. We still have time for IPL to start. said the 39-year-old coach.

We will have to take collective responsibility: Mohammad Kaif

The Delhi Capitals assistant coach believes that everyone involved will have to follow the guidelines strictly to make this IPL a success. He also talked about the new additions in the team and how strong the team is looking now, as they hope to win the IPL which they have failed to do in the past 13 seasons.

“I think if we want to make this IPL a success, we will have to take collective responsibility to not ignore the guidelines given to us. From day one to the last day of the tournament, which is November 10, we have to be more responsible,” he added.

We are very excited about this season and our team has improved a lot from the last season. We have a complete squad and have picked some experienced players in (Ravichandran) Ashwin, (Ajinkya) Rahane, Alex Carey and (Shimron) Hetmyer.

“We already had (Kagiso) Rabada and Ishant (Sharma); now we have Anrich Nortje as well. The new players make this side very balanced this year. We played well last year also, and that confidence will help the players this season,” Kaif stated

The IPL 2020 will begin from September 19 till November 10, a total 53-day campaign will see all the eight teams play in UAE. The venue this time is UAE and matches will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
