IPL 2020: I Wouldn’t Say I Am A Very Gifted Player, Says Shreyas Iyer 1

Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer has stated that he thinks he is not a very gifted player but he puts the onus on his smart and hard work. Iyer played a captain’s inning last night against KKR, scoring 88 runs off 38 balls including 7 fours and 6 sixes. KKR had won the toss and chosen to field at the Sharjah cricket stadium which favours the batsmen more.

Prithvi Shaw(66), Shreyas Iyer (88), and Rishabh Pant (38) fired Delhi to set a massive target of 229 for the Knight Riders to chase. Kolkata failed in their chase by 18 runs after they could only manage to score 210 in 20 overs. KKR’s Nitish Rana scored a vital knock of 58 runs. Eoin Morgan (44) and Rahul Tripathi (36) quick fired in the end but couldn’t hold their wicket.

Really satisfied with the way everyone stepped up: Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer stated that he knows all the hard and smart work he has put in, and so he won’t consider himself a very gifted player. He said it was important for him to have a slow start and it was the right time for him to take on the bowlers. The DC skipper said he was really satisfied with everyone in the team for the way they stepped up in the match against KKR.

“I know the hard work and the smart work I have put in through my gym sessions, so I wouldn’t say I am a very gifted player,” Shreyas Iyer said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“It was really necessary for me to take time at the start which I did in the earlier games as well. It was the right time for me to take on the bowlers and then rotate strike as well after that. Luckily it worked out for me. We keep talking about close victories and this was one of them. Really satisfied with the way everyone stepped up,” Iyer said.

Couple more sixes and we would have crossed the line: Dinesh Karthik

KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik yet again couldn’t help his team any bit in their chase. He scored 6 runs off 8 balls and was dismissed by Harshal Patel. Karthik later said the 10-13 over phase was where they slowed down and lost a couple of wickets. He stated a couple more sixes would have changed the game for them.

“Maybe in between 10-13 overs we didn’t get many boundaries, we lost a couple of wickets as well which sets you back in such run chases. To be honest, couple more sixes and we would have crossed the line,” Karthik said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

The Delhi Capitals led by Shreyas Iyer now sit at the top of the IPL points table with 3 wins and 1 loss to their name. Kolkata Knight Riders stand at the 5th spot with two wins and as many losses. DC will next face RCB on October 5 at the Dubai International stadium.
