Royal Challengers Banglore captain Virat Kohli had a big smile on his face after they won the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday. He was delighted to see his team starting the 13th edition of the league after losing their consecutive opening matches in the last three seasons.

Usually, Virat Kohli plays a big role with his bat in guiding RCB to victory but this time, his team players were the ones to get them across the line.

After the end of the game, the winning captain said that it was an amazing feeling to win the first game because last year, they were on the losing side. He further heaped praise on Yuzvendra Chahal whom he remarked as the game-changer. He said that the spinner proved that skills could help anyone to get wickets irrespective of favourable conditions.

“It’s amazing and last year we were on the other side of the results. We kept our composure tonight. Yuzi came in and changed the game for us. Tonight he showed that if you have skill, you can get purchase on any wicket. The way he came in and bowled attacking lines, he was the one in my opinion who changed the game,” Virat Kohli said.

Virat Kohli lauded his team’s effort:

Virat Kohli also applauded Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch, the two RCB debutants, for giving a good start to the team. They set up 90 runs partnership before Padikkal lost his wicket after scoring 56 off 42 balls.

He further praised his main man AB de Villiers whose firey knock helped them to set up a fighting total of 163 runs. He also appreciated Shivam Dube, fast-bowling allrounder, as he picked two wickets in his three overs. The flamboyant batsman also stated that keeping a positive environment when the pressure was building also helped them to be alive in the game.

“We started really well and Devdutt was really good and Finch was good too. AB batting in the last three overs helped us push it past 160 and as I said, the fact that we didn’t let negativity slip into the bowling group was a great sign and Dube bowling those three overs was really good to see,” he concluded.

RCB won the match by 10 runs. They will play their second match against KXIP on 24 August.
