Delhi Capitals (DC) added much-needed firepower in their spin attack in form of R Ashwin, the veteran Indian cricketer who led Kings XI Punjab in last two seasons. With Ashwin joining the team, there were talks that the senior player might replace youngster Shreyas Iyer as captain. However, there will be no change in DC’s captaincy.

As per a report in Sportstar, Iyer will continue to lead the team, which will mean that Ashwin will play under India’s white-ball player. Iyer had first taken over DC’s captaincy when Gautam Gambhir stepped down from the post during IPL 2018.

In IPL 2019, the Delhi-based franchise qualified for the playoffs, after seven years, under a young captain. Surely, the team management has big plans for Iyer and he could be the player to watch out for in the coming seasons.
Unde Iyer, Delhi finished at the third spot in the points table with nine wins and five defeats from 14 matches. They defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator but lost to Chennai Super Kings in the second Qualifier.

The team will, though, miss out on the services of its advisor Sourav Ganguly. In IPL 2019, the former India captain had joined an IPL side for the first time and DC did wonders under his tutelage.

As per multiple reports, Ajinkya Rahane is also moving to Delhi Capitals. This will mean that Delhi will have four to five candidates for the captaincy job. Rahane led Rajasthan Royals to playoffs in IPL 2018 but was replaced by Steven Smith mid-season in IPL 2019. He again led the team when Smith returned to Australia to prepare for World Cup 2019.
