Harbhajan Singh, who has pulled out of this IPL season, said that Ambati Rayudu should have been in the World Cup 2019 squad. His remark came after Raydud played a gritty knock for Chennai Super Kings against Mumbai Indians to guide them to victory.
Harbhajan said that Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis partnership was the game-changing moment for CSK in the season opener. The duo stitched up a match-winning partnership of 100 runs when the openers Murali Vijay and Shane Watson lost their wickets within two overs. The veteran spinner also said that CSK had made a bright start in the IPL 2020.
“The partnership between Rayudu and Du Plessis was the game-changing moment for Chennai Super Kings. We have made a bright start and we need to keep moving forward like that,” Harbhajan Singh said.
He recalled that when CSK won the IPL title in 2018, they had defeated MI in the first game. So, winning the tournament opener this time as well would have created a positive environment dressing room.
“I remember that when we had won the IPL two years back, we had defeated Mumbai Indians in the first game. So, it is a good omen for us and I hope we will finish well again,” Harbhajan Singh added.
Ambati Rayudu should have definitely been in World Cup 2019: Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh said that Ambati Rayudu also proved that it was an injustice done to him to not include him in the World Cup 2019 squad. As per the spinner, the batsman has proved that having talent is a crucial part of a player irrespective of his age.
“It will be less however much you appreciate Rayudu. I feel there was an injustice done to him when the World Cup team was picked. He should have been definitely there in that team. But he has showed again in this match, how much ability he has and that age is on one side and talent is also something that needs to be looked at,” he concluded.
CSK will play its second match against Rajasthan Royals on 22 September.
