Delhi Capitals’ opener Prithvi Shaw’s availability saga in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) has taken yet another unexpected turn. The right-handed batsman is now reportedly set to rejoin the Delhi Capitals for the rest of the tournament. Shaw last played on May 1 against Lucknow Super Giants, and has missed the team’s last three games. He was admitted to a hospital on Sunday due to high fever. Later, he had shared an Instagram post from his hospital bed, saying he was hopeful of coming back soon.
The youngster had said that he was recovering from well. The franchise was not giving a clear update on Shaw’s health but earlier this week captain Rishabh Pant had said that his teammate was with typhoid. Later, Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach Shane Watson had all but ruled out Shaw’s chances of playing anymore in IPL 2022.
“It’s not looking great. I don’t know exactly his diagnosis but he’s had this underlying fever for the last two weeks now which they have to really get to the bottom of to find out exactly what it was. I don’t know exactly what the diagnosis is but it’s not looking great for him to be available for us for the last few games,” Watson told the Grade Cricketer Podcast.
Prithvi Shaw set to return:
Prithvi Shaw, however, is not all set to be available for Delhi Capitals for the crucial phase of the competition. According to a report in The Times of India, Shaw has recovered after being severely ill. The news outlet quoted a source as saying that Shaw is likely to be available for selection when Delhi Capitals take the field again. Delhi’s next game is against Punjab Kings on Monday (May 16).
“When they play their next game against the Punjab Kings on Monday evening, Shaw is very likely to be available,” the source said.
Shaw’s availability will be a huge boost for Delhi as they look to win their remaining league games in order to make it to the playoffs. They are currently at the fifth spot in the points with 6 wins from 12 games. Talking about Shaw’s performance this season, he has scored 259 runs in nine games at an average of 28.77 and a strike rate of 159.87, with two fifties.
