Former Indian cricketer Rohan Gavaskar feels Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket was the turning point in the match and hailed Punjab Kings sensation Arshdeep Singh for his brilliant death bowling against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians on Saturday. The young  Punjab pacer held his nerves in the death overs to restrict the Rohit Sharma side to 201-6 at the end of 20 overs.

Sam Curran led Punjab Kings in the absence of their regular skipper Shikhar Dhawan registered their fourth victory in the league stage from as many as seven games. On the closely contested encounter in the Wankhede Stadium, Punjab Kings came on top in the final over.

Speaking to the cricbuzz, Rohan Gavaskar said that the ebb and flow of the game was fantastic, as the match was a see-saw battle in the 2nd innings, at one stage it looked like Mumbai Indians would get over the line before Green and Suryakumar Yadav caught up in the final overs.

“The ebb and flow of this match were terrific. At one point in time, it looked like Punjab would win easily. Then when Suryakumar and Cameron Green were batting, it seemed like a guaranteed win for MI. After Suryakumar got out, the pressure came on MI,” Rohan Gavaskar said.

Suryakumar Yadav produced blazing innings of 57 runs off just 26 balls in the chase of 215 runs. The World No.1 T20 batter has been going through some tough times in International cricket, came back stronger against the Punjab Kings but could not finish the game for the side.

The Way Arshdeep Singh Bowled Was Fantastic – Rohan Gavaskar

Rohan Gavaskar praised the hero of the match Arshdeep Singh for his terrific final over against the Mumbai Indians with him breaking the stumps of Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera in consecutive balls and conceding only two runs in defending the 16 runs in the last over.

“The way Arshdeep bowled was fantastic. Bowling the last over is never easy. We have seen in this IPL itself, how many runs get made in the last over. He was under pressure but he had clarity of thought and followed his game plan very well,” Rohan Gavaskar added.

The 24-year-old Arshdeep Singh has been a standout performer for Punjab Kings in the last few years bowling the tough overs for the Punjab side has once again produced a scintillating performance for his team. They will take on Lucknow Super Giants in their next match on April 28.
