Gujarat Titans star of the night Shubman Gill revealed that he always tries to stick to the basics game plan and believes that it is important for him to get into a good position to play his shots in the match. The 23-year-old was at his absolute best to score his third century in this edition of the Indian Premier League.

Shubman Gill played a crucial inning against five-time champions producing match-winning innings of 129 runs off 60 balls to help them qualify for the second consecutive finals in the cash-rich league.

Speaking on IPL.tv alongside Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill revealed the things that worked for him after having a slow start in the league stage and feels that it was important to get his first hundred against Sunrisers Hyderabad as it helped him to have a mental switch to keep up the momentum going into the tournament.

“In the first half of the IPL, I was getting those starts but wasn’t able to convert them. So, I knew, it was about getting that one hundred. And once I get that, it’s all about the mental switch. And then you start thinking differently, playing differently and that’s what, I think, has worked for me,” Shubman Gill told Hardik Pandya.

On his batting techniques, Shubman Gill feels that when a player plays too many matches, they tend to do different things, so it is important to switch that mindset and focus on keeping the basic things right and reckons that he tried to work on keeping his position still to hit the bat, not getting carried away by playing bad shots.

“When you play too many matches, I feel, things change but you don’t realize. Because you keep trying different things while playing. And if you don’t work on your basics, then you know how cruel this game can be. Three games and if you are not scoring, you feel like, ‘Shit! Where are you in this game?’

The 23-year-old  is already touted to be the next big thing in Indian Cricket and has been in the form of life since the start of the 2023 season, proving to be a vital cog for the Indian team in all three formats and carried on his form in the IPL 2023.
