Indian Premier League teams will be out of the service of South African players for the start of the league. South African players are to miss at least the first six IPL games this season as they’ll arrive in India only by April 3. Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, will kick off on 31st December, with the opening match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
The director of cricket for South Africa, Enoch Nkwe has said that African players who are part of the Indian Premier League will be available for the crucial Netherlands ODI series at the end of the month. South Africa must defeat the Netherlands in the ODI series to immediately qualify for the 2023 World Cup, hence the CSA has taken this action.
Last December, a day before the IPL auction, the BCCI, in a note to the franchises on overseas players’ availability, had informed that contracted South African players would be available from March 29, two days before the IPL opener. But due to the importance of the ODI super league, South Africa is expected to name a full-strength squad against the Netherlands.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will be the most affected franchise due to the unavailability of South African Platers. Sunrisers Hyderabad (Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, Marco Jansen), Delhi Capitals (Nortje, Lungi Ngidi), Mumbai Indians (Tristan Stubbs, Dewald Brevis), Gujarat Titans (Miller), Lucknow Super Giants (Quinton de Kock), Punjab Kings (Rabada) have South Africa players in the side.

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Aiden Markram is likely to miss the first match of the Indian Premier League. He was appointed as the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). His IPL career began in 2022 with Sunrisers Hyderabad. In his maiden season, he emerged as one of SRH’s key players and finished the tournament by scoring 381 runs at an average of 47.63 with a strike rate of over 139 with three fifties.
Aiden Markram led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to a title in the inaugural season of the SA20 league after beating Pretoria Capitals in the first season. Many experts did not experts Sunrisers Eastern Cape to make the playoffs, but they did brilliantly well to win the inaugural edition.
