IPL 7: In a brilliant catching display Chennai Super Kings defeat Delhi Daredevils by 93 runs as DD were bundled out for 85

Chennai Super Kings win by a huge 93 runs and registered their biggest IPL win ever. Suresh  Raina was the star of the match scoring 56 runs off just 41 deliveries which helped the two time champions to 177/7 in their 20 allotted overs at Dubai  on Monday night.

Then while defending the score, the three splendid catches – 2 from Faf du Plessis, and one from Raina, left Daredevils shell shocked, as DD were wobbling at 17/3 and failed to recover from that bad start as they were bundled out for a paltry 85. There was no recovery stand after that horrible beginning. It was a forgettable night for DD batters, while all six CSK bowlers who came to bowl picked up at least one wicket. Jadeja, Ashwin, and Pandey picked up two wickets each.

At the toss report, Chennai Super Kings skipper decided to field first despite failing to defend 200-plus in their previous match and contrary to their captain’s usual preference for chasing.

Dinesh Karthik, once again deputizing in place of an injured Kevin Pietersen named an unchanged Daredevils side, said he would have fielded first anyway.

Chennai Super Kings made as many as three changes to the XI that lost to Kings XI Punjab. Dwayne Bravo is out for five-six weeks after suffering a shoulder injury on the field in the Kings XI match. Ben Hilfenhaus replaced overseas-player’s spot. With the batting weakened by the West Indies allrounder’s absence, Super Kings brought in Mithun Manhas in place of left-arm spinner Pawan Negi. The final change was a fast bowler replacing a fast bowler, with Ishwar Pandey chosen instead of Ashish Nehra.

The Abu Dhabi pitch was a green one, although Dhoni analysed that the bare patch on one side will make pitch variable.
