IPL 7: KXIP vs MI – Hits and Flops

Shashi / 23 May 2014

It was KXIP Vs. MI tonight at Mohali. It was the first game at Mohali and as expected the stadium filled up completely. MI needed to win the game tonight to keep their hopes alive for qualifying into the play-offs and as it happened, MI won the game with sheer ease. There has been quite a few stand up performances in the game and also some disappointing ones. To sum up things, here is a list of the HITS and FLOPS of the game:

FLOPS Of The Match

Glenn Maxwell (KXIP): It has been twice in a row now that Maxwell failed to deliver his MAXIMUM. For the 2nd consecutive time, the Orange Cap holder was dismissed in a single figure score. Today he managed to score just 2 runs off 3 balls and was dismissed caught and bowled by Shreyas Gopal.

Sandeep Sharma (KXIP): The uncapped promising pacer of KXIP did not manage to keep things perfect tonight and looked pretty much ordinary with his bowling. He gave away 22 runs in his 2 overs and Simmons thrashed him for boundaries and did not allow him to settle down.

Michael Hussey (MI): He struggled today in his batting. He did not manage to play strokes while Lendl Simmons was carrying on with his destruction on the other end. He was a minnow in the opening partnership and managed to score just 6 off 13 deliveries and was dismissed by trying to play a casual stroke.

Beuran Hendricks (KXIP): He failed to keep things tight and did not come up with the team’s expectations upon him. He went for 33 runs in his 4 overs and took a single wicket. He also struggled with his bowling run up and was warned for coming to the middle of the pitch in his follow through.

HITS Of The Match

Shreyas Gopal (MI): The right arm uncapped leg-spinner of MI is coming handy for them. He bowled extremely well tonight. Although he was a bit expensive tonight, he did manage to take two priceless wickets for MI in the form of Glenn Maxwell and in-form Manan Vohra. He gave 32 runs in his 4 overs.

Lendl Simmons (MI): The man from Trinidad did strengthened the batting line up of MI right from the time of his inclusion in the squad. Today was no exception to that and perhaps he played his best knock tonight. He struck a century for MI and won the game for MI single handed. He played some exquisite strokes. He remained unbeaten on 100 off 61 deliveries with 14 fours and 2 sixes. His innings was simply a treat to watch. This was 1st century of IPL 7.

Praveen Kumar (MI): The replacement for Zaheer Khan and also one of the fine swingers of the ball did impress with his performance tonight. He was very tight in his line and did not give any room to the batsmen to score freely. He bowled 16 dot balls and gave just 20 runs in his 4 overs and took a wicket.

George Bailey (KXIP): The KXIP skipper did play his part tonight when rest of the line up was struggling. At one time, it looked as if KXIP would not even cross the 140 mark but due to his innings KXIP managed to pose a target of 155 runs. Bailey scored 39 runs off 30 deliveries with 2 fours and 2 sixes.
