The news of CSK members and a player being tested positive of the coronavirus, on Friday, had created chaos and speculation on who is the player and will the IPL tournament be affected because of it. As per the new report, the player is none other than CSK pacer Deepak Chahar. As far as the tournament is concerned, the reports stated that the league will go on but the announcement of the schedule has been delayed.
According to reports in Times of India, Deepak Chahar’s quarantine period is extended but he would have to twice clear the COVID-19 tests before featuring in the tournament. A BCCI official stated that adequate measures will be taken to tackle the situation while there is no immediate threat to the tournament.
“Adequate measures are in place to tackle the situation and there is no immediate threat to the tournament. But the announcement of fixtures has been delayed because of this development,” a top BCCI source told TOI.
Deepak Chahar attended the training camp:
Many are of the view that the reason for spreading the infectious virus in CSK camp is the five-day practice session of them in Chennai before landing in the UAE. That training camp was attended by MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Deepak Chahar and a couple of other players. Notably, they hadn’t quarantined themselves before starting the practice session in India. Now, the reports are stating that a senior BCCI official had warned CSK management about the risks of holding such a camp in India.
“Senior BCCI officials had cautioned the CSK management about the risks of holding such a camp in India,” a BCCI source said.
“There are many players who were coming from a long lay-off. The likes of MS Dhoni, Deepak Chahar, Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina had played very little cricket even before the lockdown in March. That’s why CSK insisted on having the camp, to have a few extra days under their belt,” a source said.
CSK mentally preparing themselves for IPL 2020:
A CSK source has said that the extended quarantine period would not affect the team. However, they are hoping no more players test positive of the virus. The franchise is mentally preparing themselves to play the tournament from 19th September.
“It is difficult but the entire team is on the same page. We know we are in a position to absorb this delay and take it in our stride,” a CSK source said
“As far as we know, we are playing on September 19 and that’s how we are preparing mentally. Now we are only hoping that no one else tests positive in the next few tests,” the source added.
In the past few days, UAE has also witnessed a surge in coronavirus cases which had already delayed the announcement of fixtures for the tournament. But now after, player testing of COVID-19 had further hindered BCCI to declare the schedule.
