IPL 2018: 33rd Match, KKR vs CSK – Kolkata Knight Riders Players Rating
Nov 26, 2018 at 12:25 PM
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) almost pulled off an uncertain victory as they banked on a team effort to thump Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets at the Eden Gardens on May 3 (Wednesday).
Meanwhile, Sunil Narine has been outstanding with both bat and ball. He bagged two for 20 in his four overs before providing a blistering start scoring 32 runs od 20 balls.
Young Shubman Gill (57*) and skipper Dinesh Karthik (45*) played decent knock to see their team through.
While Gill brought his first IPL fifty, Karthik went after the bowlers. The duo chased down the target with 14 balls to spare.
Previously, Chennai posted 177 runs on the board with all the batsmen chipping in with useful contributions. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was once again at his usual best as he hammered 43 off just 25 balls to post a challenging total.
However, some decent overs from KKR bowlers ensured that the total doesn’t go out of reach.
As a result, Kolkata jumps to the third spot with 10 points from nine games, two short of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who are at the top.
Here is the players rating of Kolkata Knight Riders:
Chris Lynn: (4/10):
Chris Lynn failed to capitalise the quickfire start as he departed scoring 12 runs off just six balls.
The swashbuckling opener’s form will be crucial to Kolkata’s success going into the business end.
Sunil Narine: (9/10):
The all-rounder from Windies Sunil Narine has continued his exploits with the bat at the top. He scored a quickfire 32 of 20 balls to set the tone for the host.
Moreover, he was stupendous with ball returning with two for 20 in his four overs.
Robin Uthappa: (3/10):
Robin Uthappa had a poor outing as he failed to prove his worth with the bat. He got out scoring just six on the bowling off KM Asif.
However, he will look to make amends for it and hit the form in the next game.
Dinesh Karthik (c & wk): (9/10):
Skipper Dinesh Karthik‘s late cameo of 45 from 18 balls ensured Kolkata to cruise to victory with ease.
Moreover, he guided the 18-year-old Gill and the duo guided KKR to two important points.
Rinku Singh: (6/10):
Rinku Singh played a decent hand rotating the strike and allowing Shubman to play his original game.
Coming into the team in place Nitish Rana, he scored 16 runs to build a good partnership.
Meanwhile, this will give him confidence going into the tournament.
Shubman Gill: (8.5/10):
Shubman Gill was outstanding today with the bat against a decent Chennai attack.
The young batsman used his opportunity to full effect taking his team over the rope.
Gill remained unbeaten on 57 runs from 36 balls including six fours and two over boundaries.
Andre Russell: (2/10):
The Windies all-rounder Andre Russell had a very minimal role to play in this game. He bowled only one over, however, went for 12 runs.
Russell will have to hit the form as it will help Kolkata in the upcoming fixtures.
Shivam Mavi: (7/10):
The young Shivam Mavi is growing in stature as it is evident from his performance.
Although he didn’t pick any wickets, he was economical bowing three overs for 21 runs.
However, this is a learning curve for the young seamer and this will only help him grow.
Piyush Chawla: (7/10):
The veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla did a decent job bowling in the powerplays. Chawla claimed two crucial wickets to halt Chennai’s free run flow.
The experienced customer returned with two for 35 in his four overs.
Mitchell Johnson: (3.5/10):
The veteran seamer from Australia Mitchell Johnson had a very poor outing against the table-toppers. He gave away 51 runs in his four, as Kolkata continues to struggle with their seam bowling.
Johnson needs to replicate his old days and contribute to Kolkata’s success.
Kuldeep Yadav: (6/10):
Kuldeep Yadav was a bit expensive in this game against a fiery Chennai batting. The left-arm leg-spinner returned with one for 34 in his full quota.
The aggressive wrist-spinner will have to pick wickets if Kolkata Knight Riders want to continue the winning momentum.
