IPL 2018: Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Effort Deserved the Win: Ranveer Singh

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, on Sunday (April 15), turned back the clock with his superlative batting performance in the narrow loss to Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).

The former India skipper Dhoni has faced severe criticism in recent times for his uncharacteristic slow batting. However, he blew away his detractors with his sublime innings for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Chasing a daunting 198, Super Kings were looking well out of the contest till the 16th over. With 64 runs needed off last four overs and Dhoni batting at a strike-rate of almost 100, it looked Super Kings had accepted their fate.

However, the World Cup-winning skipper Dhoni had other plans. He launched a stunning counterattack – to give a mighty scare to Punjab before his team fell short by just four runs.

Battling a back injury, Dhoni hit the top gear. In the 18th over, he hit a six and a four to make his intentions clear.

On the other end, Ravindra Jadeja added to his cause with a six on the last ball of the over. In the following over, Dhoni hit Andrew Tye for two sixes and a four.

With 17 runs needed to win in the last over off Mohit Sharma, Dhoni could only take a six and a four as Super Kings lost the thriller this time around.

But despite the loss, Dhoni has been lauded by one and all for his 44-ball unbeaten 79 run breezy knock.

The latest to lavish praise on Dhoni is none other than Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh.

Insisting that Dhoni deserved to be on the winning side, he tweeted: “Aaaaah! Almost! Oh well… @msdhoni effort deserved the win! Kya bolega…. T20 can be brutal, man… #KXIPvCSK”
