As the fans desperately wait for MS Dhoni’s return to action, the former India skipper has started his preparation for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The fans are waiting anxiously for the wicketkeeper-batsman’s after IPL Governing Council finally announced the dates of IPL 2020. The thirteenth edition of the tournament will be held in the UAE from September 19 to November 10.
As far as MS Dhoni is concerned, the Chennai Super Kings skipper has not played any competitive game for more than a year now. The 38-year old last played a competitive game during the World Cup semifinal in July last year. Soon after the tournament ended, he left everyone surprised by taking an indefinite sabbatical from the game.
MS Dhoni would have made his much-awaited return to action in March this year during the IPL but the tournament had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. He had started training at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium with his IPL teammates in March when the pandemic led to the postponement of the tournament.
MS Dhoni resumes training:
With the dates for IPL 2020 confirmed now, MS Dhoni has not wasted any time in preparing himself for the upcoming tournament. He has hit the nets in Ranchi although he has been forced to train with the help of bowling machines due to absence of bowlers because of the pandemic.
“He visited the JSCA International Stadium Complex last week. He practised at the indoor facility using bowling machine,” a Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) office-bearer was quoted as saying by the New Indian Express. “He did batting practice for two days over the weekend, but has not returned since.”
“I honestly don’t know what are his plans or whether he will come back for training. We only know he has visited the facility for practice,” added the official.
MS Dhoni will soon leave for Chennai where all the Chennai Super Kings players and support staff will assemble. The entire camp will then leave for UAE later this month.
