Mayank Agarwal, who is playing the third season of Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kings XI Punjab, has so far played fantastic knocks for the franchise at the opening position in the ongoing tournament. In the last three matches, the Indian cricketer has scored one half-century and a century although his knock could not help KXIP in winning cause.

In a recent interaction, Mayank Agarwal said that playing for the national team has given him more confidence. As he is the Test opener for India and has also opened innings in ODIs on three occasions, he has learned to play a responsible role for KXIP. The right-hand batsman said that further the head coach Anil Kumble had also cleared his role in the team which has made his job easier.

“Playing for the country has given me a lot of confidence and I enjoy the responsibility. I don’t think it has changed the position a lot in KXIP as we have top-class cricketers here. From the word go Anil bhai (Kumble) and KL (Rahul) have been clear about what role they want each of us to play. It just makes it easier,” he said.

Feedback from the New Zealand series pushed Mayank Agarwal to do better:

Before playing IPL 2020, Mayank Agarwal played for India in the Test and ODI series against New Zealand. He didn’t have a good outing during that tour as he scored only one half-century in the two-match Test series while in three ODIs, he registered 32, 3 and 1 runs respectively.

Mayank Agarwal said that the feedback of his performance from the New Zealand tour helped him to improve his game. He added that the Indian coaches advised to work him in some areas. And during the lockdown, the 29-year-old worked on it which is ‘reaping benefits’ for him today.

“I had got good feedback from the New Zealand series and the Indian team coaches had also said look to work on these things. So, whatever they had said, we worked on it and it is reaping benefits today,” he smiled.
