The spotlight will be on the two famous Indian Pathan brothers, Yusuf Pathan and Irfan Pathan when the brother duo from Baroda takes the field against the Railways in a group A Ranji Trophy cricket match in New Delhi tomorrow.
Placed second behind the trophy contesting leader Karnataka, Baroda players showed quite a decent betterment in their recent forms in their last match, which was played quite skilfully by them against the mighty Uttar Pradesh and that too in their home ground in Lucknow when a fit again all rounder Irfan Pathan made a strong comeback to guide the team to a ten wicket win. It was the first win in four games for the Aditya Waghmode led side, but it surprisingly climbed to the second spot in the highly competitive elite group that has certain giant teams in the name of Mumbai, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and the bottom placed Bengal.
If opener Kedar Devdhar, who did put up a beautifully ornamented score of 146 runs, had laid a solid foundation for the team while batting first in the order, then the younger of the brother duo, the all rounder Irfan Pathan, coming in to bat at order number seven, scored a valuable 98 run show that mesmerized all of the few eager spectators present in the New Delhi stadium. Yusuf Pathan, the other half of the same coin for the princely state of Baroda, often known to come handy with his cheesy shots in miniscule formats and tendencies to hook up runs at an easy and not so considerable pace and who has been reportedly struggling with his batting till now, came good with the ball after an inspirational show from younger brother and picked up six crucial wickets to flatten the UP side on their home turf.
In the end Baroda earned a bonus point and certainly come into this four-day game as favourites against a struggling Railways unit. Railways, led by wicketkeeper-batsman Mahesh Rawat, are yet to win a game, but have managed 9 points from the four matches.
