The present tour of Sri Lankan cricket team replaced the half way through cancellation of West Indies series. This was an internal matter of the West Indies Cricket Board and the Player’s association. The Sri Lankan tour of India has been a one sided affair in the three matches so far. The Indians have beaten Sri Lanka in the first ODI by 169 runs, the second one day International by 6 wickets and the third ODI by 6 wickets. The Indian batsmen have been scoring runs at will and wish, and their strength has never been put to test. No Sri Lankan bowler is able to force on any player of the Indian team to make errors. On the contrary the Indian bowlers have been bowling so well especially Akshar Patel, Umesh Yadav that except Mahela Jaywadhane and Mathews were able to score runs in one match each.

The Challenge for the Indian team is to get used to the condition of pace and bouncy pitches of Australia and adjust accordingly. In that it appears nothing much has been put to test. One wonders if this is what we want in the preparation for the Australian tour and the World Cup competition at large. Even in the recent off-shore England test series India played well in the first two test matches only winning the second the test match at Lords. After that India lost its plot and eventually lost the series 3-1. Indian team was at loss and made us feel as if everything is lost.

This tour provided for fringe player to prove their worth and stake a claim in Indian squad for the World Cup 2015. Considering that objective it is a boon for the young Indian players like Axar Patel, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron and Rayudu definitely came in the sight of Selectors. Pace bowling has shown some teeth but key challengers like Aaron and Ishant Sharma have got injured in the process. They will continue to get practice ahead of the prestigious tournament and give an option of trying out the combinations that they would best for the World Cup.

However we cannot take seriously the batting skills shown by Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Ambatti Raudu, Raina and Kohhli too. This could be a bane, as they may become complacent

The captaincy of Virat Kohli has been good as the Indian team have looked in great shape. I think this will do a great boost for Indian team ahead of the Australian test series. The Indian team was whitewashed in the last tour of Australia 4-0.  I am sure that this tour will help the Indian team do to well in the tri series and also retain the World Cup that they won in 2015.
