ToggleFormer Indian skipper Kapil Dev believes it is going to be a massive loss whenever MS Dhoni decides to retire from the game. Dhoni had last played in the Indian colors back in the 2019 World Cup when India lost the semifinal against New Zealand. Since then, Dhoni has made himself unavailable for national selection and he was recently omitted from India’s central contract list.
Dhoni has not clear what his plans are but there is a less probability of his comeback. In fact, a lot will depend on how the former Indian captain will perform in the Indian Premier League while leading Chennai Super Kings. Dhoni has been out of action from competitive cricket and it would be interesting to note his comeback.
Dhoni’s International career is nearing an end.
However, there is no doubt that the void is huge and India has big shoes to fill in. Kapil Dev added that Dhoni’s retirement might be around the corner.
“He has served the country so well, for so many years. One day, he has to retire. It will be sooner rather than later. He has to go at some time. He is not playing matches. So, I don’t know when he is going to come out and say he has had enough. It will be our loss whenever he retires,” Kapil Dev said in Chennai while promoting 1983.
On the other hand, the Indian bowling battery especially the fast bowlers has taken giant strides in the recent past. Dev added the team is making the transition as they are winning matches because of their bowling unit. Thus, India is one of the most consistent teams in the world.
India’s pace battery is doing wonders.
“The bowling attack is fabulous. We are winning matches not because of the batsmen, but because of great bowlers who are taking 20 wickets in a Test. That is the difference that we have had recently.”
Meanwhile, India has a tight schedule which has led to a surfeit of injuries. Kapil Dev added that the team management should manage the workload of the players with guile as they have to play around the clock.
“When you play 10 months in a year, you will get injured. You have to look after the fast bowlers. The conditions and weather in India are more challenging than in other parts of the world. The team management will have to take care of them.”
It would be interesting to note MS Dhoni’s decision as he has kept everybody guessing about his future. The upcoming IPL will be instrumental in his decision.
