New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson created history at the New Zealand Cricket Awards by becoming first Kiwi player to win Sir Richard Hadlee medal for the third time.

He was equalled with Ross Taylor with two medals and with a spectacular show on batting and captaincy front, Williamson bagged the medal for the third time.

New Zealand already had a pretty late start their international season – in October 2018 – and they create history by defeating Pakistan in UAE last year.

Later, they defeated Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in home series to complete dominate the proceedings in the longest format of the game. Kiwis had mixed results in ODIs.

They though defeated Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at home but lost to India while the ODI series against Pakistan ended in a tie.

In T20Is, New Zealand were whitewashed 3-0 by Pakistan but they defeated India and Sri Lanka in the home series.

All in all, New Zealand did well in lead up to the World Cup and will hope to win the trophy for the first time

The joint host of 2015 World Cup, New Zealand were the runner-up of the previous edition of the tournament.

Apart from Sir Richard Hadlee medal, Williamson also won the Test player of the year award.

Ross Taylor was adjudged as the best ODI player while Coin Munro bagged the award for the best T20I player.

Williamson also bagged another honour by bagging Redpath Cup, that is given to the best first-class player (for batting).

Trent Boult was given Winsor Cup, given to best first-class played (for bowling).

In women’s category, teenager Amelia Kerr was awarded adjudged as best ODI player while Sophie Devine was adjudged as best T20I player.

New Zealand’s men’s players will now soon land in India to be part of their respective teams in IPL 2019.

In fact, few of the players might be in action after just two or three days after they land in India.

Williamson is all set to lead Surisers Hyderabad and is likely to be in action in SRH’s first game.

Trent Boult will also soon be in action for Delhi Capitals, who play Mumbai Indians in an away game on March 24.

Tim Southee, Colin Munro, Colin de Grandhomme are few of the Kiwi players who will be in action in IPL 2019.
