NZ vs RSA 2017: Kane Williamson Equals Martin Crowe’s Record Of 17 Test Hundreds In Hamilton

In the third and final Test of the ANZ series, a decider, against South Africa, the New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson on Monday equalled the 22-year-old record of late Martin Crowe for the most Test hundreds by a Kiwis cricketer as the latter brought up his 17th Test hundred on day three in Hamilton against Proteas.
Williamson brought up his 17th Test ton In his 61st Test match which is 16 fewer than Crowe, who had played 77 Tests for New Zealand during the span of 14 years (1982-95), had taken to score 17 Test hundreds.
The right-handed batsman Williamson reached the milestone when he struck the four on the bowling of Dean Elgar.
As Kiwis finished the day three on 321 for four to take the lead of seven runs after South Africa posted 314 runs in their first innings Williamson remained unbeaten on 148 off 216 balls.
During his sublime innings, the World Number three in Tests, Williamson struck 14 boundaries and three sixes.
The Tauranga-born 26-year-old Williamson has levelled the record with Australian legendary batsman Ricky Ponting – to reach the 5000-run mark in 110 innings as Crowe reached the milestone in 117 innings.
It was also Williamson’s second century during the ongoing series as he had already scored 130 in Dunedin Test which was drawn.
During his innings, Williamson also became the sixth Kiwis to reach 5,000 Test runs.
In his Test career so far, Williamson, who made his debut in 2010, has scored 5,088 runs at an average of 51.39 which further include 25 half-centuries.
On the other side, Crowe, who had played 77 Tests had scored 5,444 runs at an average of 45.36 which included 18 fifties and the highest individual score of 299 against Sri Lanka in 1991.
The right-handed batsman Ross Taylor has registered 16 Test centuries in 81 Test and is listed third in the overall Test run charts for the Black Caps.
