Kevin Pietersen Says ‘Nonsense’ In The Past As He Wishes Andrew Strauss Well
Mar 1, 2018 at 5:32 PM
England batsman Kevin Pietersen said he now gets on “really well” with his former teammate Andrew Strauss. Meanwhile, he wished Strauss’ wife a quick recovery from cancer.
Pietersen had a varied relationship with Strauss. While Pietersen took the captaincy baton from him, Strauss as an administrator effectively ended Pietersen’s international career in 2015.
However, Pietersen insisted that all the “nonsense” between the two was a thing of the past post his match-winning knock. He notched up 48 runs for the Quetta Gladiators as they beat Islamabad United.
Get on well with Strauss:
The middle-order batsman admitted that nowadays he goes well with the former teammate.
“I actually get on really well with Straussy and I’ve had some real good conversations with Straussy because he’s going through some real personal hardships at the moment,” Pietersen told reporters.
“And I’m being serious when I say that cricket is insignificant when Andrew Strauss is feeling what he’s feeling, with his wife and cancer, so you put all the nonsense to one side,” he added.
Strauss’ wife diagnosed with cancer:
Meanwhile, Strauss’s wife, Ruth is undergoing cancer treatment since last December. Pietersen said that families are more important stating the cricketing days are long gone.
“I’ve actually spoken to him quite a few times in the last couple of months,” said Pietersen. “Cricket and all the stuff that happened is gone, it’s insignificant because families are a lot more important. I’m good with Straussy. I just wish Ruth all the best and hopefully, Ruth can pull through. She’s a fighter,” he added further.
Meanwhile, both saw their relationship deteriorate since 2012. South Africa-born Pietersen sent text messages reported to be critical of Strauss, then the England skipper and who was also born in South Africa, to Proteas players in the middle of a Test series.
Following that Pietersen was dropped from the England Test side.
Meanwhile, Pietersen went onto became the highest run-scorer for England in Test, a record now held by Alastair Cook.
