The BCCI, on Thursday (August 11), confirmed that opening batsman KL Rahul will be returning to action during India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. Team India are scheduled to visit Zimbabwe later this month for a short ODI series. Rahul will not only return to action but will also lead the Indian team against Zimbabwe.
The right-handed batsman has received the green signal from BCCI’s medical team to return to action. Shikhar Dhawan was originally named as the captain for the tour but the southpaw will now be the vice-captain with Rahul being appointed the skipper. Rahul has not played for Team India since February after suffering a series of injuries.

He did return to action during this year’s IPL where he led Lucknow Super Giants but was sidelined right after the tournament. After the IPL, he was scheduled to lead India during the 5-match T20I series against South Africa but missed the series due to a groin injury. He had to spend a considerable amount of time on the sideline as the injury needed surgery.
As a result, the 30-year old missed the tour of Ireland as well as England. He was scheduled to return at the just-concluded tour of West Indies and USA but was sidelined once again after testing positive for Covid-19. While he did recover before the series started, he gave the series a miss after being advised to take rest by the BCCI medical team.
