Krishnappa Gowtham Tenders Unconditional Apology, BCCI To Look Into The Matter

All-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham has tendered an unconditional apology to BCCI for his recent actions. He was selected in the Duleep Trophy squad to represent India Red side, but on the fourth day of the first game, he did not take the field and asked BCCI to let him go back home due to health issues.

He even submitted a report that he was suffering from typhoid but a day after the end of the game, he turned out for Belagavi Panthers to play Karnataka Premier League (KPL) game. His actions came under the scanner, and as soon as BCCI came to know about this move, they took action against him and dropped him from the India A squad to face New Zealand A in two unofficial Test matches. Karn Sharma was called in as his replacement.

BCCI asked Gowtham for an explanation, and now, he has tendered his apology and has sent an answer for the same, “I thought it was typhoid, but it turned out to be viral fever,” Gowtham wrote.

The letter further also stated that he also thought that his body might allow him to bowl four overs.

Earlier, KSCA had said that Gowtham was not aware with the fixtures of Duleep Trophy but Gowtham has come up with a different explanation, which has now raised some questions on the statement of the board.

A three-member disciplinary panel, comprising of Lok Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia, former BCCI President Niranjan Shah and CK Khanna, the acting President of BCCI, will now look into the matter and will decide on the future of Gowtham.

However, Khanna has already said that it was wrong on Gowtham’s part to leave the tournament mid-way,

“Yes, I have received his apology letter. In my view, it has been a huge mistake on Gowtham’s part to have disrespected a tournament of Duleep Trophy’s stature. He has apologised unconditionally. He is a young cricketer and we need to look at his career ahead. While I want him to give a written undertaking, I haven’t yet discussed with Mr Shah and Mr Scindia in this regard,” Khanna told PTI.

Despite this controversy, Gowtham is an automatic selection in Karnataka side for Ranji Trophy, and he has a chance to keep the selectors attracted towards him with performances in the domestic tournament.
