Kuldeep Yadav Expresses His Love For Eden Gardens

The Story

After blowing a golden opportunity in the opening match at Chennai, where they were close to humiliating India, Australia was expected to upgrade the quality of challenge. But, instead, they ended showing with degraded performance.

Coming to Kolkata, it was firmly believed that Australia would sort out their batting issues. They tried their best, but the Indian bowlers were simply too good. Therefore the chase of 253 runs put up by India never happened as they went on lost the match by 50 runs. As a result, they are now winless in their last 13 ODIs away from home.

The match witnessed strong performances.

Skipper Virat Kohli ended up with a crucial 92, Bhuvneshwar Kumar snapped 3/9 in his 6.1 over spell. But, it was young chinaman Kuldeep Yadav who added the zest to the entire contest with his historic hattrick.

Kuldeep expresses gratitude

Kuldeep Yadav later described the memorable feat as a “special” effort and admitted of having never dreamt of achieving it. The left-arm wrist spinner is now only the third Indian to take a hat-trick after Chetan Sharma and Kapil Dev.

Kuldeep joined the list of elites when he removed Matthew Wade, Ashton Agar, and Pat Cummins off consecutive balls in the 33rd over.

Eden Gardens itself witnessed its third hattrick as previously Kapil Dev (1991) and Harbhajan Singh (2001) also registered similar feats at this same venue.

It is also the venue where Yadav graduated to the next level. He has been a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders side in the IPL after getting picked up for $66,000 in the 2014 auction. It took time for him to break into the team and only debuted in the 2016 season. In the entire season, he played only three matches but made a large impact in the last season picking up 12 wickets from 12 matches.

Therefore, it is natural to feel special about this venue and expressed his gratitude and love just before leaving the city today.

“Proud moment for me to take a hat-trick for India at Eden Gardens, where I have learnt a lot in the last few years. Thanks all for love.”
