Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka are understood to have breached the bio-bubble after a video emerged on social media which shows them in a public place. Sri Lanka’s cricket is seriously going through tough times in terms of performances both on the field and off it and the recent incident in England hasn’t helped at all. The investigation regarding the matter is currently in progress.

The team from the island nation is currently in the UK to play three T20Is and as many ODIs. The visitors were blanked in the T20I series as they didn’t even put up a fight against the full-strength England side. The first of the three-match ODI series is set to be played on June 29.

Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella And Danushka Gunathilaka Admits To Breaching Bio Bubble

Sri Lanka‘s team manager Manuja Kariyapperuma has confirmed that the team management is investigating the breach. The team is currently in Durham and the place in which Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, and Danushka Gunathilaka have been captured doesn’t appear to be in the vicinity of the hotel. The video that has gone viral on Twitter, clearly shows the cricketers were having fun while being out of the bubble.

Sri Lanka Cricket has suspended three cricketers Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis, and Danushka Gunathilaka pending a full inquiry after the three admitted to breaching the team’s bio-secure bubble in Durham on Sunday night. The three are being flown home immediately from the tour of England, but it is understood that the series is not in any jeopardy at this stage.

Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella And Danushka Gunathilaka Sent Back Home From England Tour

As far as the performance on the field is concerned, both the players didn’t have a good time. Kusal Mendis scored only 54 runs in three matches with the best score of 39 runs at a poor strike rate of 98.18 while Niroshan Dickwella played in two T20Is only mustering only 14 runs and he wasn’t great behind the stumps either. The team is already being criticized for its poor show and the latest incident has clearly raised questions on their behavior as well.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said on Monday they were sending their players Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, and Danushka Gunathilaka back home from the team’s England tour for breaching bio-bubble protocols. The decision was taken after a video posted on social media showed vice-captain Kusal Mendis, wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella and batsman Danushka Gunathilaka outside their designated team hotel in Durham.
